Homesteading Middles: Windfalls of Abundance

Branches groan under soft tender flesh and hard pits

Can this be our life?

To wander rows, looking for a deeper color

Pick a peach warm from the tree

Knowing the more we snag

The heavier the peck

Yet, the heavier the peck

The more sweet sauce for dark months

Months of wood stove tending and sprouted lentils for salad

Shaking branches to dislodge the zenith ripe ones

A windfall coming from my intervention

I pause and touch the tree

My soul’s yell a whisper against the bark

Thank you for feeding us

Thank you for your fruit

Thank you for being part of my amazing life
